Women's Self Protection (A.S.P. - 10 week Assault, Survival and Prevention course)

Although our adult Kenpo classes have many dedicated women students we decided to have a specific class for women's self-protection. According to the Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker the number one cause for women to go to the emergency room is partner abuse..

Our objectives are to help prevent violence against women by increasing our understanding of this terrible epidemic, changing attitudes and teaching practical self-protection sills. Women learn that empowerment is more than a word and more than striking a padded attacker in the groin, its about finding out what you are capable of, facing your fear, and managing your limitations. We also discuss crime, fear and adrenal stress management. Verbal, emotional and physical partner abuse, rape, date rape, stalking harassment, and abduction scenarios are discussed while we develop action plans for these scenarios and educate our intuition. Students learn to use fear as a weapon and as a tool by learning the most common methods used by attacker's, and how to avoid fitting the victim profile. Each class has an information portion, discussion, and development of verbal and physical skills from standing to ground encounters and how to deal with an attacker's use of a weapon.
