| History of American Kenpo Karate |
Kenpo's roots date back to China circa 525 A.D. Kenpo combines ancient martial arts of China (Chuan Fa) and Japan (Akijujitsu), Danzin Ryu Jujitsu) and combines them into a uniquely American, progressive, modern approach to martial arts. Modern Kenpo owes a great debt of gratitude to Mr. Edmund Parker who was one of the foremost Karate pioneers in the U.S. He was a key player in revolutionizing the classical arts and began emphasising a practical, logical and scientific strategy for developing the skills of self-protection, athletic self-mastery, and the psychology of personal development. Although Mr. Parker facilitated new innovations and developed a structured approach that contained the concepts and theories of a new art, he did not intend for this structure to produce clones. The system he developed presents each student with the tools they need to develop their own style of movement. Practitioners learn to use a wide variety of natural weapons; fingers, hands, forearms, elbows, kicks, knees, trapping, throwing, sweeps, restraints, pain compliance and weapon control. At ASE Kenpo Karate we contribute to the evolution of modern kenpo by helping our students develop a strategic edge critical to success in both combat and in life. Students understand the tools necessary to defend themselves by using methods to avoid, escape, subdue or control an attacker. Most importantly they learn a new respect for life, humility and the self-discipline it takes to work at being your personal best. |
